You Can Be a Child of Abraham
Today’s reading is Matthew 3.
God gave great promises to the offspring of Abraham. As you study God’s Word, you may become convinced you can’t possibly be a descendant of Abraham, either biologically or spiritually. However, do not fear. Being Abraham’s offspring is more about God than you. Certainly, you must respond to God’s promises. However, remember that God can raise up offspring to Abraham from a stone. If He can do that, He can certainly take someone like you who believes in His Son Jesus and make you an offspring of Abraham. Don’t trust your ability to be Abraham’s offspring, trust God’s ability to raise you up as a descendant of Abraham by faith. Then just hang on to Him and let Him work.

A Word for the Kids
Hey kids, how would you like to go around wearing clothes made out of camel’s hair and eating locusts and wild honey? I can imagine a lot of people thought John was a bit crazy. As you grow up, God hasn’t called you to wear camel’s hair and eat locusts, but some of what He asks of His followers seems crazy to folks in the world. Be prepared. People will mock and ridicule when you look different, behave differently, and believe differently. Don’t be swayed by them. Hang on to God, it’s His praise that matters, not the world’s.
